Ascendant
The zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of birth. It sets the structure of the houses and determines the chart ruler.
Chart Ruler
The planet that rules the Ascendant sign. In traditional astrology it is considered a central indicator of the life direction.
Sect
A classification system dividing charts into day charts and night charts depending on the Sun's position relative to the horizon.
Essential Dignity
The strength of a planet determined by its zodiac sign placement, including domicile, exaltation, detriment, and fall.
Angular Houses
The first, fourth, seventh, and tenth houses. Planets located here tend to have stronger expression and visibility.
Succedent Houses
The second, fifth, eighth, and eleventh houses. These houses indicate development, stability, and continuation.
Cadent Houses
The third, sixth, ninth, and twelfth houses. Planets here tend to act in more subtle or preparatory ways.
Lot of Fortune
An important calculated point representing physical circumstances, health, and material conditions.
Lot of Spirit
A calculated point associated with intention, purpose, and personal direction.
Annual Profections
A traditional timing technique that activates a new house each year of life.
Time Lord
The planet that governs a specific period of life within a timing technique.
Planetary Joy
A house where a planet is traditionally said to operate comfortably or naturally.
