What Is Financial Astrology?
Financial astrology — sometimes called astro-economics or mundane financial astrology — is the study of how planetary cycles correlate with economic activity, market sentiment, sector rotation, and the timing of booms, busts, and turning points.
It does not claim that planets cause markets to move. It claims that human emotion drives buying and selling — and that human emotion runs on the same celestial rhythms that astrology has tracked for millennia.
Markets are mass psychology. Mass psychology is rhythmic. Rhythm has a clock. Astrology is one of the oldest clocks we have.
The Pioneers
Constructed his legendary "Financial Time Table" in 1908. Used squared price/time geometry, planetary lines, and the 18.6-year nodal rhythm. Reportedly executed 264 winning trades out of 286 in 1909.
Published Astrology and Stock Market Forecasting. Tied the entire business cycle to the North Node's 18.6-year journey through the zodiac. Some suspect "McWhirter" was a Gann pseudonym.
Wall Street analyst who systematized financial astrology with statistical rigor. Author of Planetary Stock Trading. Pioneered the use of company "first trade" charts.
Author of the multi-volume Forecast Book series. Synthesizes geocosmic signatures with traditional cycle analysis. The contemporary dean of the field.
Publishes the annual Financial Astrology Almanac. Heliocentric methods, esoteric mathematics, and Gann-style cycle work applied to S&P 500, commodities, and FX.
Author of Mercury, Money and the Markets. Specializes in Mercury cycles as currency and trade timers. Long-running Financial Cycles podcast.
The McWhirter 18.6-Year Theory
The North Node of the Moon precesses backward through the zodiac, completing one full circuit every 18.6 years — about 1.55 years per sign. McWhirter mapped this to four critical economic phases anchored at the four fixed signs.
The North Node entered Pisces in early 2025 and transits Aquarius from July 26, 2026 onward. By McWhirter's reading, this places us in the contraction approaching the cyclical bottom — the stage that historically precedes generational accumulation opportunities.
The Houses of Money
National treasury, currency, banks, the people's purchasing power.
Stock exchanges, equities, gambling, casinos, prediction markets.
Working class, services, unions, employment data.
Debt, taxes, bonds, insurance, inheritance, mergers, crises.
Government, central bank policy, the standing of the nation.
Congress, Parliament, public policy, group fortune.
Who Rules What
☉ Sun
Gold, leadership stocks, blue chips, sovereigns, executives.
☽ Moon
Silver, public sentiment, real estate, food & beverage, hospitality.
☿ Mercury
Currencies, transport, telecoms, media, trading itself, contracts.
♀ Venus
Luxury goods, beauty, art, copper, sugar, fashion, weddings, banking relationships.
♂ Mars
Iron, steel, defense, oil, machinery, sports — also volatility itself.
♃ Jupiter
Expansion, banking, foreign trade, publishing, education, optimism cycles.
♄ Saturn
Lead, real estate, mining, agriculture, contraction, the bear, structural reform.
♅ Uranus
Tech, electricity, aviation, crypto, sudden disruption, IPO mania.
♆ Neptune
Oil, pharma, film, alcohol, fraud, illusion, bubbles, dissolution.
♇ Pluto
Plutonium, debt cycles, monopolies, hidden power, rebirth crashes.
Mercury Retrograde & Markets
Mercury rules trade itself — the contracts, the signals, the wires, the news. When it stations retrograde, traders historically observe spike volatility, narrative reversals, and an unusual frequency of "fat-finger" errors and reporting delays.
The most operative windows are not the retrograde itself but the three stations: pre-shadow → station retrograde → cazimi → station direct → post-shadow. Old Wall Street rules of thumb: don't sign new contracts at stations, and revisit decisions made in the shadow once Mercury exits.
Feb 25 → Mar 20 in Pisces (cazimi Mar 7) — narrative dissolution
Jun 29 → Jul 23 in Cancer (cazimi Jul 12) — repricing the home, re-pricing the dollar
Oct 24 → Nov 13 in Scorpio (cazimi Nov 4) — debt & transparency reckoning
Saturn Conjunct Neptune at 0° Aries
Saturn meets Neptune approximately every 36 years. What makes this conjunction extraordinary is that it perfects at 0° Aries — the cardinal world point, the very first degree of the zodiac. The last Saturn-Neptune conjunction at exactly 0° Aries was around 7000 BCE.
Saturn = structure, government, contraction, the real. Neptune = dreams, illusion, currency, oil, the unreal. Their meeting dissolves what was structurally built and concretizes what was once only imagined. Historically the pair correlates with the birth and death of monetary regimes.
Currency reform · sovereign debt restructuring · oil & pharma volatility · AI moving from "promise" to "regulated reality" · Russia historically active during Saturn-Neptune hard aspects.
Uranus Returns to Gemini
Uranus last visited Gemini from 1941 to 1949 — a window that produced the transistor, commercial aviation, and the ENIAC computer. Its return brings Uranian innovation to Gemini's domain: information, transport, networks, learning.
Likely sectors that lead
AI agents, quantum communications, autonomous vehicles, decentralized social media, modular education, neural interfaces, satellite constellations.
Likely sectors that lag
Traditional higher education, legacy telecom, centralized publishing, single-platform monopolies, old retail logistics.
Jupiter into Leo
Jupiter spends most of the first half of 2026 in Cancer (its sign of exaltation) — a powerful tail-wind for housing, food, banking, and domestic markets. On June 30 it ingresses into Leo, swinging the expansion baton to a new set of sectors:
Film, TV, streaming, live performance.
Independent artists, monetized platforms.
Prediction markets, gambling, sports betting IPOs.
Premium brands, jewelry, status goods.
Jupiter Opposite Pluto
Jupiter (expansion, banking, lending) opposes Pluto (debt, deep power, forced restructuring). When this pair forms a hard aspect, historical analogs point to credit events: bank runs, sovereign debt scares, leveraged blow-ups, or sudden discovery of accumulated risk.
The window is not just July 20 — it spans roughly June through August 2026, with the inner-planet triggers compounding around the eclipses (Aug 12 solar, Aug 27 lunar).
Look at 2008's Jupiter-Pluto hard aspects, the 2020 March collapse Jupiter-Pluto conjunction, and the 2010 May "flash crash." Banking exposure during Jupiter-Pluto hard contacts has historically demanded extra caution.
2026's Four Eclipses
Final eclipse of the Aquarius cycle. Tech-rotation crescendo. Often a sentiment peak in innovation names; watch for trend exhaustion in the leaders.
Health, labor, supply chain, commodities. Wage data and employment readings carry extra weight in the surrounding two weeks.
Opens the Aquarius–Leo eclipse axis through 2028. Speculation, royalty (sovereigns), entertainment, sports betting. A foundational pivot.
Closes a long story arc. Currencies, oil, pharma, illusions broken. Watch for the resolution of narratives that began with the Saturn-Neptune conjunction in February.
The 2026 Roadmap
Q1 — The Reset. Saturn-Neptune at 0° Aries (Feb 20) plus Solar Eclipse in Aquarius (Feb 17) plus Mercury retrograde in Pisces — a foundational repricing. New monetary stories begin. Old ones dissolve in plain sight.
Q2 — The Pivot. Uranus into Gemini (Apr 25) opens a 7-year tech rotation. Pluto retrograde from May 6. Jupiter still in exaltation in Cancer — defensive blue chips, housing, food still constructive.
Q3 — The Stress Test. Jupiter-Pluto opposition (Jul 20) with eclipses bracketing August. Banking stress, credit re-pricing. Leadership narrows. Capital preservation over heroics.
Q4 — The Resolution. Venus retrograde Oct 3 – Nov 13 (Scorpio→Libra) re-prices values themselves. Mercury retrograde Oct 24 – Nov 13. Saturn stations direct Dec 10 — the year's foundations are set in stone.
